Requiem civil

by Lise Borel

Monday 31 October 2022 - 3 pm / 5 pm - Catacombes de Paris

The Aedes ensemble performs the Requiem Civil by the composer Lise Borel. The work, commissioned by the Roc Eclerc Foundation, will be given as a world premiere in the Paris Catacombs.

If we use the term “requiem”, which places it in the musical tradition, the work is also “civil” and is not connected to any religious denomination. The Requiem Civil, specially composed to follow the different moments of a funeral ceremony, is addressed to all families whatever their convictions. With a total duration of 12 minutes and written in English, the work is composed of five movements: See me, I remember, Roses and lilies, Not is the time, Eternity.

Lise Borel is a young French composer. She has received numerous commissions, including works for the Maîtrise de Radio France, the Maîtrise de Notre-Dame, the festival Un temps pour elles, the Chœur de Paris Sorbonne, the Académie musicale de Villecroze, and the orchestra El Sistema Greece… Her works have been premiered in such prestigious venues as the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, the Auditorium de Radio France and the Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud. She has composed for renowned artists: Philippe Jaroussky, Anne Le Bozec, the Akilone Quartet…
